CHINDI, the Chichester based network of independent authors, continues their series of workshops for anyone interested in self-publishing, at the Novium Museum in Chichester from 10.00am to 12.00pm on Saturday 30th May. This hands-on, expert led tutorial on Editing and Proofreading will be given by Katy Lassetter of Chichester Copywriter.

The first workshop on Book Cover Design in April was enthusiastically received. Delegates described the session led by illustrator and cover designer Ciro Correia as being “Inspiring and very useful”. Local copyeditor, Katy Lassetter, will lead the second workshop.

Talking about the Editing and Proofreading workshop, Katy says: “A book is by no means written and ready for public consumption as soon as it is down on paper. There are so many things that writers can miss in their own work; a fresh pair of eyes is invaluable to progressing and strengthening a book.

In an interactive session, including a case study of self-published authors Mary Atkinson and Sandra Hooper of Once Upon a Touch… Story Massage for Children who have just signed a traditional publishing deal, Katy will look at the importance of a solid editing and proofreading process to a successful book.

“Having friends and family give your manuscript a read through in the first instance is useful but finding an experienced editor and/or proofreader, who not only understands your genre and your readers but also has a keen eye for detail, is essential,” says Mary Atkinson.

Katy will also reveal tools for self-publishing authors who wish to edit their own work and provide top tips to those looking to find the most suitable professional help.
